I'm a fresher and I've signed up to your society (have paid). Unfortunately, on Friday a throat infection I had acquired decided to turn into a full blown flu-like condition. I was very eager to come along to the lesson on Sunday, and tomorrow too, but as it hasn't shown any sign of clearing up and because it is dangerous to exercise while ill, I'm having to wait a while before I head to a class. I'm hoping this will have cleared up by the end of the week, as currently I'm feeling really gutted and eager to get back into fighting arts. From what I understand you guys meet on Sundays and Tuesdays, would there be a recommended day for a first-timer or is the material taught on both days generally the same? Also, are there any introductory classes available?
While I'm here, I'll introduce myself as I hope to be spending the next three years with you! My name is James and I'm studying English Literature with Creative Writing, minoring in Philosophy. I hail from Plymouth, waaaaaay down South.
My proper fighting training began at 15, when I started in a school of Jeet Kune Do. It was taught in a manner extremely faithful to Bruce Lee's intentions, and my two years studying there gave me extremely useful philosophies on "real-life" (or "street") fighting which I still use when approaching new fighting methods. It contained what I understand to be quite a few Wing Chun elements, such as the straight hands, trapping etc. this is one of the reasons I chose to do Wing Chun here: to help expand my knowledge in that area. I also participated in Thai Boxing lessons for three months before coming here, which were also fantastic.
Aaaaand I've rambled on too much it seems, sorry! I hope this illness clears up soon and I can join you in lessons!
