I saw on other threads that a few of you have heard of Ramon Dekker. I came across this video a couple of years ago and must have watched it twice a day for a week before I got bored of it. www.compfused.com/directlink/442/If the link doesn't work go to Compfused.com, video page 137, "Ramon Dekker kickin' ass" its worth viewing. Also, I saw on Tom's posting for the World Combat League, "better than UFC because they don't grapple". If you want to watch the best in striking-only MMA look for 'K-1' fights. This Japanese promotion was started by a Karate expert who wanted to mix it with Kickboxers, Kung Fu and Muay thai artists (or any other strikers). It would probably interest the guys who train in TKD.

Cool, I'll have to check that out.
Like I said before, I respect UFC fighters, but I just think as a spectator sport, it's pretty dull. I'll definitely check out the K-1 stuff though.
And ah yes, Ramon Dekker. Theres a man I definitely wouldn't like a fight with.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=oozS9tS_GgE&mode=related&search=I saw this during the summer. You may have seen it already as there's a link to this video from the K-1 highlight reel. Mike Zambidis looks like Dekker on speed. There's some very impressive knockouts, especially with one punch considering he's wearing full boxing mitts rather than the tiny MMA gloves.

Jesus Christ, that guy is a machine...
He looks like he has the art of counterpunching down to a tee. I especially love the jumping knee knockouts, specifically the one where he does a fake, and then follows thorugh with the left knee and sends that guy sprawling...

I love the way some of his opponents try to make out that they're OK to fight after being put down. Note the guy who gets up, leans on the ropes and then falls slowly to his right. If Iron Mike had just knocked me out I don't think I'd be in a hurry to fight him again, psychotic 5'6'' midget that he is.

Dekker is my hero. Have you seen much of Ernesto Hoost?

Yeah I've seen bits of his fights. There's loads of videos of K-1's "Mr Perfect" on youtube.com, just search for Ernesto Hoost. He's got some really powerful low-kicks/sweeps in some of them. If you like good kickers Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic is a guy to look for. His nickname comes from the fact that he's a special forces police officer in Croatia when he's not training.

CROCOP >> youtube.com/watch?v=XF_PrippGn4Ye nice kicks, the guys hes fighting seem to find it difficult to stop them, i guess it only takes one though. Check out the 3 minute mark; is that pride? They seem to be allowed to kick to the head when the opponent is down too, seems incredibly dangerous to me, i mean think how hard you can kick a football...

As you'd expect from a 220lb guy his kicks are pretty powerful which makes them difficult to stop. Also in Pride (where most of these highlights were taken from) the small gloves make blocking strikes even more difficult because they offer less padding than the full boxing mitts (as used in K-1).
And yes, in Pride kicking opponents while they're down is allowed. Surprisingly I don't think theres ever been a major injury as a result of this. I think the guys just guard their heads as well as they can and the referee will usually stop fights before more than about 2 of those kicks are thrown. Personally I think the UFC is more sensible by disallowing these particular strikes.
There are better Crocop highlights on youtube than this one. If you watch any more and are wondering whether the fights are taken from Pride or K-1 just look at the gloves.
