i dont think the tkd guy had ever heard of counter kicks. or any kicks at all tbh.
prolly just a guy dressed up in a tkd suit trying 2 make tkd look stupid.
anyone doing tkd knows that guy was C R A P !

Yeah he was really being a bit of an idiot. Think he was just intimidated by the boxer.. which of course is not good. I think he got one kick in in the whole video and it didnt do jack.

Think he was just intimidated by the boxer.. which of course is not good. Very believable. My study of Muay Thai was short, but I learned very quickly how intimidating someone who has done the art for a while can be. As you can see from the video they always seem so relaxed and in control, very rarely showing any exersion or emotion. If you watch a Thai match, even if a boxer is losing they always seem so relaxed and in control. It's very easy to be intimidated by that cool edge.

Lets be honest though, the Muay Thai fella in that video telegraphs those kicks an awful lot. That TKD guy must have really sucked not to have just counter kicked him into oblivion...
I mean, imagine fighting him using Wing Chun... Not that I'm knocking Muay Thai, cos it's a fearsome discipline.

Very true. I have done limited muay thai but the main thing I learned is that you can often get the upper hand without even throwing a punch simply by being very composed and agressive, its not hard to understand how he was able to chase the other guy around so easily.

That's not to say that either art is superior, but the boxers obviously have much more contact experience and thus can keep that composed and controlling form very well. One of those 'neither art is "better" per se, but one of the fighters is more experienced' moments.

Hehe the thing i always like is that the vids are edited and posted by the winners (like the famous quote 'history is writen by the victors' cant remember who said that?) .
But the above Vid is clips from the fight and the clips were put together by a mui toy association so its gonna by the good mui toy stuff on there. i wonder how the full fight went i wonder if the TKD guy landed a good kick or two (though i doubt it in that particular vid) but yer its all comes down to the quality of the martial artst.
Different Systems can only be objectivly compared in theory in practice it comes down to the practitioner. hence the tag by Wong Sheun Leung under my post's!!

Granted, but I bet you'll find that those WC guys were told not to kick goins, punch throats, go for eye strikes, or basically do any of the other things that I love to do in Wing Chun...
Wing Chun will never work in competition, basically because it thrives on not having rules. I think that's why a lot of Jiu Jutsu guys don't like it.
