hi, i just recieved an email saying the COP i did needs major work doing. i have a lot of work to do and don't really have time at the moment, so if anyone on the new exec wants to help and out and review the COP, and make the changes, then any help would be appreciated. here's the copy of the email, PM me if you're interested in doing it.
Hi James,
Thanks for your code of practise, I have looked at it and it needs some
adjustments. Please can you look at the following:
The membership section is not required, it is information that will be
in your constitution and does not need to be in the code of practise.
Instruction:
The first point says students teach in the instructors absence, surly
they only supervise not teach?
In the second point you have not explained who will pair up beginners.
The third point should read that members 'must' observe and follow
teachings.
You have not put in that the exec are responsible for all pairings and
to ensure pairings are suitable as in the action of the risk assessment.
You also have not put in the safety officer and president giving
warnings about different level pairings as in the action of the risk
assessment.
General Techniques:
In many of the points you use the word 'should', this needs to be
replaced with the word 'must' in all points. This will make it more
certain for members to follow.
In point 5 you say a suitable surface, surely this will be a matted
surface? If so it needs to say matted surface.
Point 6 is not required because it is not relevant to health and safety.
Point 8 does not specify when the instruction takes place, I assume it
happens before they are allowed to use the wooden dummy? If so, this
needs to be put in.
You have not put in this section that there is always proper instruction
and supervision as stated in the control of the first three hazards.
This can be copied from the section above.
You have not put in about the safety officers warning before training as
in the action of the first three hazards in the risk assessment.
You have not put in that the safety officer checks and maintains the
padding on the wooden dummy and how often this happens as is in the
control of the wooden dummy hazard on the risk assessment.
You have not put in about the safety officers warning before focus mitts
training as in the action of the focus mitts hazard in the risk
assessment.
Facilities:
In point 3 you need to highlight that the training area will be defined
at the start of every session.
You have not included members wearing correct footwear and members being
made aware of slippy-floor issues as in the control of Training area in
the risk assessment.
Weapons Training:
You need to replace the word 'should' with 'must' in all points.
You have also not specifically said that this training will be isolated
form the rest of the class as in the action of the hazard in the risk
assessment.
In the last point you need to also reference the section below about
maintaining equipment.
Equipment, Insurance, First Aid, and Socials:
In the second point you need to say how often the equipment will be
checked.
In the fourth point you need to specify who will tell the members.
In point 5 you need to state who is responsible for providing the first
aid kit.
In point 8 you should include the ratio of sober exec members specified
in the control of the risk assessment. You also need to say that they
are sober in case of an emergency rather than sober in the event of an
emergency.
You have not included anywhere the lifting and carrying of heavy
training items hazard in the risk assessment, please add this.
Please can you make the adjustments and send me the updated version,
Thanks
